Description

45° lock miter router bit · 8 mm shank

Strong, square corners from one bit.

A lock miter bit cuts a 45° miter with a built-in tongue and groove, so two boards lock together at a clean right angle with no end grain showing on the outside.

It is the joint for drawer boxes, cabinet carcasses, hollow legs and boxed beams: more glue surface than a plain miter, and the step holds the pieces in line while you clamp.

Rated 4.8 by 13 woodworkers

Tight joints, clean cuts, every time.

  • Marco U.: “It's durable, precise, and consistently delivers flawless joints.”
  • Kristian L.: “It cuts smooth, precise joints every time.”
  • Albert E.: “This router bit makes creating tight-fitting joints effortless.”
  • Edward A.: “This lock miter router bit makes complex joinery tasks a breeze. It's durable, reliable, and produces flawless results.”
  • Joel M.: “Once set up correctly, it's a pleasure to use.”
  • Jessie M.: “Bought this to make a faux beam to hide the top plate of a non load bearing wall I removed. I could have removed it and patched the ceiling but went this route. A regular miter is the best way to give the appearance of a solid beam but it wouldn't be strong enough and it would be tough to line up over a long span. This solved both of those problems.”

How it works

One height setting, both boards.

Mount the bit in a router table. Set its height so the center of the profile sits at the middle of your stock, then run one board flat on the table and its mating board upright against the fence.

The two cuts come out as mirror images and slide together into a square corner. A few test cuts on scrap of the same thickness let you fine-tune the height and fence until the faces sit flush, and once it is dialed in every board after that matches.

Two sizes

Pick the cutter for your stock.

1-3/8 in cutter5/8 in cutting height, 2 in long. Sold for stock about 1/2 to 3/4 in thick.
1-1/2 in cutter3/4 in cutting height, 2-1/8 in long. The taller profile, for thicker stock.

Both sizes have an 8 mm shank and fit routers with an 8 mm collet.

Where it earns its place

Boxes, drawers, cabinets, beams.

Use it on solid wood, plywood, MDF and particleboard. It is a fast way to make drawer boxes and cases with crisp corners, and to wrap a beam or post in boards that read as one solid piece.

The cutter has two tungsten carbide tips brazed to a painted steel body, the cutting edge woodworkers choose for MDF, plywood and other sheet goods.
