Wire saw · pocket survival saw
A saw that coils up smaller than your fist.
This is a survival wire saw: one strand of twisted stainless steel wire with a split key ring on a swivel at each end. Loop it over a branch, pull the rings back and forth, and the twisted wire cuts through the wood.
It is a wire saw, not a link chain with strap handles. Some shops sell this style as a "pocket chainsaw". What arrives is the wire and its two rings, light enough to forget in a pack until you need it.
How it cuts
Two hands, a wide U, steady pulls.
Hook a finger, or a short stick, through each ring. Loop the wire over the branch and pull one hand down, then the other, keeping your hands wide apart so the wire stays in a wide U. The twisted strands work through the wood a little with every stroke.

Pull one side, then the other. Keep the U wide; a sharp angle can kink or snap the wire.

- It is a wire, not a chain. There are no chain links and no strap handles; the rings are the grips.
- Made for wood. Use it on branches and small logs. It is not for metal, and we do not sell it for cutting anything else.
- Keep the wire in a wide U. Pulling it into a tight V puts the strain on one spot and can snap the wire.
- It takes effort. A wire saw is slower than a folding saw or an axe; expect steady work on thicker wood.
- Wear gloves for long cuts. The rings can press into bare fingers after a while.
- Keep it out of reach of children.
