Description
Free a stuck PVC fitting in minutes
When a glued PVC or ABS pipe breaks right at a fitting, the usual fix is to cut the fitting out, and often the wall, floor or slab around it. A socket saver takes the shorter route. Chuck it in a drill, set the head into the fitting’s socket, and it cuts away the stub of old pipe glued inside. The socket comes out clean and ready to glue in a new length of pipe, so you reuse the fitting and save the repair.
It is the tool for a tee inside a wall or a fitting under a slab: anywhere the fitting is hard to reach but its open socket is within reach.
What is in the set
- Four reamers with four different head sizes, for common Schedule 40 PVC and ABS socket fittings.
- Each reamer: a galvanized steel cutter disc with bent-up blades at the rim, fixed with a hex nut to a hex steel shaft that goes in your drill.
Not sure which head? Message us your fitting size and we will help you match it.
How to use it
- Cut the broken pipe flush with the face of the fitting.
- Pick the head that fits the socket. The right one slides into the socket with its blades just meeting the old pipe.
- Mark the depth. Hold a new fitting of the same size against the shaft and mark how deep its socket goes, so you stop at the bottom of the socket.
- Drill straight at a steady, moderate speed. Keep the drill square to the socket and let the blades do the cutting. Stop at your mark.
- Clean out the shavings and dry-fit the new pipe, then prime and glue it, following your cement maker’s instructions.
Wear eye protection, keep hands clear of the spinning head, and remove the battery before changing heads.
Made for the repairs that look impossible
These drill-driven reamers with galvanized steel blades are made for Schedule 40 PVC and ABS socket fittings around the house, such as drain, waste and vent lines. One drill, four heads, and the fitting you thought was lost is ready for new pipe.
Keep the shaft in line with the socket, run the drill at a steady speed and you get a clean, glue-ready socket. Dry-fit before you glue.
