Description

Hands-free light, worn like a sweatband

A wide bar of light across your forehead, instead of a torch in your teeth.

This is a rechargeable COB headlamp: a strip of light-emitting diodes bonded into one continuous bar that sits across the front of the band, so it throws a broad, even wash of white light over everything in front of you instead of a narrow circle you have to keep aiming.

It charges over USB, so there are no batteries to buy. Put it on, press the button, and both hands are free for the job.

Pick your style

The featherweight band, or the tilting housing.

Two builds, one wide COB bar, and the same USB charging. Choose the one that suits how you work.

Gray: the soft bandOne continuous light bar across the front of a flexible gray band, with gray molded end caps, an elastic strap with a slider buckle, and a small flat black pod at the back of the head holding the battery, the charge port and the red rear lights. It is the lightest thing that will sit on your head all evening, and the bar points where your head points.
Black: the tilting housingA hard black molded front housing on a black woven strap. It carries the wide light bar and a separate round spot lens, two buttons on top (one of them a wave sensor, so you can switch it with the back of a gloved hand), a red side indicator, and a hinged bracket so the head tilts down toward your hands. It runs more light modes than the Gray band and comes with its own charging cable.

Gray for comfort over a long evening, Black for control and reach: the lamp you can angle down at close work, with a spot beam as well as the wide bar.

Why a bar and not a bulb

It lights the whole workspace, not one spot in it.

A conventional head torch puts a bright disc in the middle of your vision and leaves the edges dark, so you spend the job turning your head to find things. A COB bar spreads the same light along its whole length, which fills in the space either side of what you are looking at.

The spread is 230 degrees. In practice that is the difference between seeing the fitting you are working on and seeing the fitting, the tool you put down, and the part that just rolled away.

It is a close-range flood at its best on everything within a few arm-lengths: a pipe under a sink, a tent peg, a fuse box, the path at your feet.

A woman lying under a kitchen sink tightening a pipe fitting with both hands, the lit headlamp band across her forehead washing the cabinet interior with white light

Living with it

Charge it, wear it, forget it.

USB

Charged, not battered

The 1200 mAh cell is built in and charges over USB from a wall plug, a laptop or a power bank. Nothing to unscrew and no AAAs to keep in a drawer.

3

Three modes

The Gray band gives you high, low and strobe, cycled from the button. The Black housing runs even more, because it also switches the spot lens and the wave sensor.

Red

Rear lights

A short row of red indicators sits on the back of the Gray band, facing behind you. That is the side of you that traffic and other walkers see.

What buyers say

Where it earns its place

Under the sink as often as under the stars.

It gets bought for camping and fishing and it does that job: pitching in the dark, sorting tackle, finding the way back to the tent. But the reason it never goes back in the drawer is the ordinary stuff.

Loft and crawl space. Under the car hood. Behind the washing machine. Reading a map. Walking the dog on an unlit path. Power outages. Anything where you were holding a torch in one hand and doing a two-handed job with the other.

The band is elastic and adjusts through a slider, so it fits over bare hair, a beanie or a hood.

Weather

Rain-ready from the first charge.

The lamp is rated IPX4: built to shrug off rain, spray and wet hands, so the weather does not decide when the job stops. Buyers have taken it hiking and camping through heavy rain, and it kept working.

Choosing your quantity

One for you, or one for every drawer.

The Pack Size option is simply how many identical lamps arrive in the parcel. The multipacks are the same lamp, packed together, because a headlamp is only useful in the place where you left it.

1 HeadlampOne lamp with its charging cable. The one to buy if you are trying it.
2 or 3 HeadlampsHouse and car, or one each. The usual answer for a couple or a family.
5 or 10 HeadlampsKit for a group, a work crew, a scout troop or a shed full of jobs.

In the box: the headlamp or headlamps, and a USB charging cable for each. Charge from any USB charger, laptop or power bank you already own.

Questions people ask

Which one should I buy, Gray or Black?

Gray is the soft elastic band: lighter, nothing rigid on your forehead, one wide bar of light that points where your head points. Black is a rigid housing on a woven strap with a hinge, so you can tilt the light down at close work; it has a spot lens as well as the wide bar, a wave sensor you can trigger with the back of a hand, and more light modes. Gray for comfort over a long evening, Black for control and reach.

What do I charge it with?

A USB cable comes with it. Plug it into any phone charger, laptop or power bank you already have.

Can I wear it in the rain?

Yes. The lamp is rated IPX4, which covers rain and splashing, and buyers have worn it through heavy rain on the trail. After a soaking, wipe the charging port dry before you plug it back in.

Will it fit over a hat or a hood?

Yes. The strap is elastic and runs through a slider buckle, so you can let it out over a beanie or a hood and pull it back in for bare hair.

How bright is it, really?

Bright enough that one buyer says it “lights up an entire room easily” and another that it “lit up our entire back yard.” The wide COB bar floods everything within a few arm-lengths of you, so a pipe under a sink, a tent, a fuse box or a trail at your feet is lit edge to edge.

How long does a charge last?

Buyers report a full evening run “with light to spare” and “two full nights of camping” on a charge. The low setting runs considerably longer than high, as with any lamp of this type.

What are the red lights on the back for?

Visibility from behind. They face backwards while the white bar faces forwards, so a driver or a cyclist coming up behind you can see you on an unlit road or path.

Are the multipacks the same lamp?

Yes. A Pack Size of 3 Headlamps is three identical lamps of the style you picked, in one parcel, each with a cable.
