Description

Corn sheller drill attachment

Shell a bucket of corn in minutes, with the drill you already own.

Clamp the steel shank of this corn sheller head in your drill’s chuck, push a dried ear into the open end, and the spinning steel teeth strip the kernels off the cob and into your bucket.

It is made for corn that has dried hard on the cob: feed corn for chickens and livestock, popcorn, and seed corn saved for next season. Your corded or cordless drill supplies the power, so there is nothing to charge and nothing to plug in on the sheller itself.

How it works

Chuck it, set it, feed it. Kernels pour into the bucket.

Tighten the steel shank in your drill chuck like a drill bit. Set the teeth to suit your ears, run the drill, and push a dried ear into the open end, holding it by the far end. The kernels fall away and the bare cob comes back out.

Start at a low speed and let the teeth do the work: each ear shells in seconds, and the next one is already in your hand.

The old way

Say goodbye to shelling corn by thumb.

Anyone who has shelled a bucket of dried corn by hand knows the routine: a sore thumb, blistered palms and an evening gone before the bucket is half full. Shelling a season’s feed or seed that way is a chore people put off.

With this sheller on the end of a drill, the work moves from your thumb to the drill. You feed ears, the bucket fills, and the hours you used to spend on the porch go back to you.

Adjustable teeth

One sheller for slim popcorn ears and fat field corn.

The teeth are steel bolts that pass through the wall of the sheller and point inward, with nuts on the outside. Loosen a nut, move its bolt in or out so the tips just meet the kernels on your ears, and tighten it again.

Move them in for slim ears such as popcorn, and out for thick ears of field corn. A small wrench makes the job quick, and your setting holds ear after ear.

Shell like a pro

Four habits that keep the bucket filling fast.

  • Wear work gloves. They keep your grip firm on every ear.
  • Hold each ear by its far end. Your hand stays clear of the open end while the drill spins.
  • Point the open end over the bucket. Kernels land exactly where you want them.
  • Switch the drill off and remove its battery or unplug it before moving a tooth. Then adjust, tighten and carry on.
