Description

Flexible socket extension · spring shaft · hand-ratchet tool

Reach the bolt that is hiding behind the hose.

A coil-spring shaft with a square drive on one end and a socket collar on the other. Fit it between your ratchet and your socket and it curves past the hose, bracket or pipe in the way, so the socket sits square on the fastener while your hand works from wherever it fits.

Rated 4.7 stars by 53 buyers who finally got to the bolt behind the dryer, under the sink and around the truck wheel.

How it works

A wound-wire spring that carries the turn.

The shaft is a tightly wound steel coil. Turn one end and the whole coil turns with it, even while it is bent, so the socket on the far end keeps turning around a corner where a rigid extension stops short. Let go and the coil springs back straight.

One end is a male square drive with a small ball detent that clicks into your socket and holds it on. The other end is a round collar with a square opening that fits over your ratchet's drive.

In the engine bay

Slip it around the hose and keep turning.

Bolts behind a hose, a wiring loom or a bracket used to mean pulling parts off first. Now you bend the shaft around the obstacle, seat the socket on the bolt and turn the ratchet from wherever your hand fits. Buyers call it a lifesaver that gets them into spots they thought were out of reach.

Run a stubborn fastener out in short, steady strokes while your free hand rests on the socket end, and the shaft does the rest of the work around the bend.

How to use it

Three steps, every time.

Click on your socket

Push the socket onto the ball-detent end until it clicks, then seat the collar on your ratchet's drive.

Bend to the bolt

Curve the shaft around whatever is in the way until the socket sits square on the fastener.

Steady and turn

Rest your free hand on the socket end and turn in short strokes. The coil carries each stroke around the bend and springs back straight when you let go.

Where it earns its place

The jobs a straight extension leaves undone.

  • Engine bays. Bolts behind a hose, a wiring loom or a bracket where there is a bend between your hand and the fastener.
  • Under sinks and behind appliances. Tap tails, drain fittings and the mounting bolts behind a washer or dryer, where you can see the nut and now you can get a ratchet onto it.
  • Cars and trucks. Maintenance jobs around wheels, brackets and tight housings, finished without taking half the car apart.
  • Machines, mowers and bikes. Guards, covers and housings with a bolt tucked behind another part.
