Description

An heirloom-grade pillow cover entirely covered in Tarz El Fassi embroidery — the centuries-old needlework tradition of Fès, Morocco.

Across a soft ivory linen ground, a charcoal-and-midnight star pattern is embroidered by hand into a quiet all-over diamond grid. Each eight-point floret is built stitch by stitch in two tones of dark cotton thread, giving the surface subtle depth and movement as the light changes.

Framed on all four sides by a hand-stitched sawtooth border, this piece feels complete, architectural, and deeply refined — not a casual accent, but a collectible textile made to outlive trends.

Why You’ll Love It

All-over Tarz El Fassi embroidery
Unlike standard Fassi cushions with a single decorative band, the entire front face is hand-embroidered from edge to edge.

Ivory and charcoal palette
A refined neutral color story that works beautifully with linen, oak, leather, brass, velvet, and stone-toned interiors.

Hand-stitched sawtooth border
The dark triangular border frames all four sides and gives the piece a strong, graphic finish.

Fully lined interior
A fine natural cotton lining protects the embroidery from the inside while adding weight, structure, and longevity.

Heirloom-grade construction
Hand-finished edges, double-stitched seams, and a hidden YKK zipper make the cover feel substantial and lasting.

Small-batch rarity
This all-over composition requires weeks of work and will not be reissued in the exact same design.

The Story Behind the Piece

Selected and refined by Meriem Chrrouhi, founder of Tigemi, this ivory-and-charcoal pillow is part of her ongoing work to bring Tarz El Fassi embroidery out of the dowry chest and into modern interiors — without losing its soul.

Meriem works directly with master embroiderers in Fès to choose the compositions, calibrate the thread tones, and approve the finishing details. The result is a piece that feels both historic and contemporary: rooted in Moroccan heritage, but made for refined modern rooms.

The Atelier

This pillow is hand-embroidered in Fès by a family atelier of Tarz El Fassi masters. The craft was historically practiced by women in the old medina and taught from mother to daughter.

An all-over field like this takes weeks of patient needlework. Each star is built from dozens of tiny stitches, and every sawtooth along the border is tied off by hand. The artisans are paid fairly and directly, on a slow timeline that respects the work.

Why It’s Rare

Most Fassi pillow covers feature a single embroidered band. This piece is different: every square centimeter of the front face is hand-stitched, then framed by a hand-finished sawtooth border.

That level of embroidery multiplies the labor many times over. Combined with the fully lined interior and heirloom-level construction, it becomes the kind of textile traditionally reserved for weddings, ceremonial homes, and inheritance pieces.

This exact composition will not be reissued.

Styling Ideas

The ivory-and-charcoal palette behaves like a refined neutral. Place it against deep oak, raw linen, oxblood velvet, aged brass, cream bouclé, or worn leather.

Let it stand alone on a bench, daybed, reading chair, or upholstered headboard, or pair it with simple solid pillows so the embroidery remains the focal point.

It works beautifully in a Moroccan riad-inspired room, a Hamptons cottage, a Parisian apartment, or any interior that values quiet craft over loud decoration.

Care

Spot clean only with a damp white cloth, or use a specialist dry cleaner familiar with hand embroidery. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to help preserve the dark thread. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, bleach, or iron directly over the embroidery.

A Note on Authenticity

Because this piece is embroidered entirely by hand, slight variations in stitch density, thread tone, motif placement, and border detail are natural. These are not flaws — they are proof of authentic hand craftsmanship.
